A Push In The Right Direction

Image
Many of us stay stuck in the same position, or place rather, in our lives where nothing seems to improve and it seems like all doors have been slammed against our faces. Do we take the opportunity to analyse the situation or moment in time that we find ourselves in when our lives hit a stand still, and look for possible solutions or ways to get out of that situation and grow? Or do we just sit back and wait for a miracle to happen? Like many, some of us are stuck in jobs that we do not want to be in because we cannot find "proper" jobs. Our financial situations seem to be strained because we do not earn enough, or we have certain financial responsibilities to take care of so much that we cannot give ourselves a treat for working hard at the end of every month. There are things we want (i.e. those parts of our homes that we want to fix (renovate), getting our first apartments or buying ourselves brand new cars), or simply take our families out for a simple lunch/dinner, b...

Women's Day, Not So Happy

Image
As we all know, August is a month in which we show appreciation to women in South Africa as we also celebrate them on the 9th of August every year... My question to you is: Why do we continue to celebrate women, and wish them a "Happy Women's Day" or "Happy Women's Month" when some, if not most of them, are not actually happy, and are living in fear each and every day of their lives? How many women are actually happy? I wish I had the answers to those questions, but unfortunately, I, myself do not have the answers to them. I know I have written something on women before, but I have noticed how the issue of women being abused, kidnapped, raped and violated against in any form has become a major issue in the country. It has escalated and it does not seem to get any better. Women are still living in fear for their lives. Women are not the only ones affected by this issue, the men around them are also affected. They constantly have to worry about their w...

To Slay, Or To Be A Queen

Image
Disclaimer: I am not hating, or throwing shade. I am just an individual voicing out my thoughts and opinions. To anyone that gets offended, I am not sorry for feeling the way I feel, you probably fit the descriptions and your actions probably match those that will be described in the blog post, it’s not my fault that you are the way you are after all. Let’s start by defining the two words… The term slay refers to “killing a person or animal in a violent way”. The world has however, created a new meaning to the word; we now refer to it as “looking good/hot”. The term queen refers to “a female ruler of an independent state”. I believe the word has not lost its meaning, there are independent women who rule their own worlds. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the so-called “slay queens”, who are “young and naïve girls who do not date broke men, and spend hours on social media showing off things they do not even own”, they are in fact, ruled by men. Looking good, and having...

January

For some, it is a very long and tough month, while others find it to be a month like all the others. For me, it is a time of introspection, a time to reflect on what I have achieved and what I really want in the new year. I would not call it making new year’s resolutions, they never seem to work. Life happens, and you forget about your resolutions and take each day as it comes. January is month that determines whether the new year will be yours or not. Many are looking for jobs and finding means to register at universities, it is indeed a tough month. We have all spent our money in December and the only money we have left is for putting food on the table, checking in at internet cafés to see if we do not have important emails regarding those jobs that we have applied for, and to make sure we have not missed registration deadlines for university, it is a month where most people would say “umthwalo wami uyangisinda” (My problems/burdens are too heavy for me), it is a stress...
