Being A Woman In SA Today
What is happening in society today brings a feeling I cannot even begin to describe. I am somewhat sad, angry and disappointed at the fact that women in South Africa are being tormented by the ruthless men in the country, and have become subject to the cruelty of these men.
At first, it was the taxi rape saga that came about early on in the year, where women would innocently catch a taxi to get to their destinations, only to get mugged and raped. And then there came a story whereby women got abused in their relationships by their so-called 'lovers'. And now we suddenly have women who are being abducted while walking in the street.
It has come to my attention, and to the attention of many other people, that women are no longer safe in this country. We are not safe in our own homes or in the streets, we just aren't safe anywhere. At home, we get armed robberies, in the streets, we get mugged, and in taxis, we get raped and dumped in a ditch somewhere. What are we to do now, besides walk around looking back our shoulders every two minutes to ensure that we are not being followed? We walk in constant fear and paranoia because men have become ruthless creatures, no offence to the innocent men out there. Rumour has it that there are men working for certain people, and they have been given tasks to capture women for a certain amount of money.
Ladies please beware of the dangers that we have become exposed to;
My advice to you:

Ladies please beware of the dangers that we have become exposed to;
My advice to you:
- If you catch a taxi, make sure you catch one at a taxi rank, unless if there are people to stand with on the sidewalk because this whole thing of waiting on the side walk is just not safe.
- If you catch a bus, beware of this: People check what time you go to the bus stop, and how long you wait for the bus, they also check how far you have to walk in order to get home from the bus stop. this gives them enough time to plan their move on you. So please make sure that you have someone waiting for you at the bus stop when you come back from work or school, and that you are never alone at the bus stop.
- Invest in pepper sprays, we've seen how they use them in movies, now is our time to use them to protect ourselves.
- Always let your family, and close friends know where you are going. lying about your whereabouts is no longer safe.
- turn off your location services on your phones, and stop checking on social media, you are setting yourself up!
- When you catch a taxi, always take the plate number down, and send it to someone, just incase something happens.
Being a woman in South Africa today is scary. The time has come for women to stop looking down on each other, and stand together to protect one another.
Please keep safe. Keep your eyes and ears open, and look out not only for yourself, but for others too.

Great piece. Ladies take care, and men let's live up to what we claim to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks Muano :)
DeleteIt is really sad what is happening in our country. Do these men want to take us all out? Do they want to live in a world where there are no women at all? Now women have to be cautious when they walk the streets, is this what it has come to now?
ReplyDeleteThey've become scavengers. What seems to be a nation, is tearing apart into pieces.
DeleteWow!DeeKay, this is really a great piece... This sinking country needs people like you to always guide the blind... I am also a man but am really disappointed, ashamed and disgusted by what our fellow brothers are doing... Keep up this awareness and guides, you're really doing great!...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much anonymous. I'll try my best to keep up the act. It's not your fault that all this is happeneing, so don't feel bad, even though men are being generalized and all your reputation is being tarnished, just try to show that there is still hope by helping where you can. Thank you for reading my post :)
DeleteIt's really sad that women now have to live in constant fear. Death penalty should be brought back and let them see that will pay for these crimes
ReplyDeleteWith the government and law inforcements we have now, I doubt that death penalty will be brought back. Corruption has gained power over many things in this country, it's bad.
DeleteSo true, this is so sad i cannot... Eveytime i wake up alot is happening on my mind, even just a single call to friends, or mom or someone when tby dnt answer i freak out..This is just out of hand
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean girl. Be safe out there!
DeleteIt's heart breaking to see the things that are happening in our society. And it's getting worse . And it's sad to know that their learners and students who have to catch taxis and have to walk to get to school and women who also have to walk when they going to work . It's sad to know that you have to be in fear when you catch a taxi ,when you walking ,when you in your own home, when you see someone following you. We have to come together and fight this , we have to come together and pray about this . And thank you so much deekay good points and advice you have there .
ReplyDeleteWe just have to stand firm in faith and prayer, and how that all this madness will end. Thank you for reading my blog Tincie :-)
DeleteYou doing an incredible job 😊.it's a pleasure deejay
DeleteSo much to be said in comment to what I've read, but it the ears/eyes meant for, I doubt it will ever get to. I, as a man, fear for my life as well, looking at the latest incident with Mandla who stood in the way of another potential victim in Soweto (may his soul rest in peace). My fear does not stop me from wanting to stand for our women. Great piece Deekay. I think we need to continually spread awareness for all, to be vigilant everywhere we go. As for those thinking they have power above anyone else, karma has no friends. They better be ready to lay in the bed they are making.
ReplyDeleteMen aren't safe either, with regards to them also getting mugged and beaten in the streets. You guys are also getting killed for trying to save the female population, it's revolting. May all these scavengers be ready to reap what they sow.
DeleteI loved reading this piece! As a woman I am so afraid to even drive my car for the fear of being hijacked or even being mugged. We really are living in a dangerous time and the worst part is we are being targeted by the same men who is supposed to be protecting us, loving us and taking care of us. This truly is a great piece Dikeledi!
ReplyDeleteIt is an alarming issue that is roaming in the streets of mzansi. I agree something has to be done ,before I go any further I just want to acknowledge your insight in this issue.guess we cannot always talk and say no yo gender abuse to women n children, but we need to resume action.let us see groups being formed,may the government be involved in driving this concern since they are the law makers. What I have noticed is that we focused a lot on corruption and forget we have other issues happening on the side that need attention also such as this saga of women being abused.
