To Slay, Or To Be A Queen
Disclaimer: I am not hating, or throwing shade. I am just an individual voicing out my thoughts and opinions. To anyone that gets offended, I am not sorry for feeling the way I feel, you probably fit the descriptions and your actions probably match those that will be described in the blog post, it’s not my fault that you are the way you are after all.
Let’s start by defining the two words… The term slay refers to “killing a person or animal in a violent way”. The world has however, created a new meaning to the word; we now refer to it as “looking good/hot”. The term queen refers to “a female ruler of an independent state”. I believe the word has not lost its meaning, there are independent women who rule their own worlds. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the so-called “slay queens”, who are “young and naïve girls who do not date broke men, and spend hours on social media showing off things they do not even own”, they are in fact, ruled by men.
Looking good, and having all the nice things that money can buy is not a train smash if you get them from a good place, that being from working hard to earn all those flashy nice things that everyone desires to have. Yes, we all like to put on make-up, buy expensive hair, get our nails done, and wear expensive clothes etc. The problem starts when we use men to take us out of our “broke” nature, we date men that buy us all these nice things, and give us money, take us to all the fancy places that we dream about and all, in exchange for sex. Dear young lady, respect yourself enough to walk away from that lifestyle, instead, work hard to live that lavish lifestyle that you desire to have. Putting on make-up and wearing nice clothes just to go to a club knowing very well that you are broke is the very same reason why men take advantage you. You go there with the mind-set that you are going to get men at the club to buy you food and drinks. What do you think happens after they pay for your food and drinks? They take you to their house, in fact, they respect their wives or girlfriends enough to take you to a B&B or hotel just so that they can sleep with you. Yes, they will keep contact, I mean they still want to “tap that ass”.
I do not blame these men that advantage of young naïve girls. The reason why these slay queens go missing and get abused, is because of all the money that men invest in them to maintain their beauty. Dear young girl, stop drawing unnecessary drama to your life, you are much more than just a few Madiba notes.
To those that know me, you know that for the longest of time, I never wore make-up, wore weaves, and gotten my nails done. That was all because I could not afford all those things. I had to work hard to start wearing all those things. It offends me every time a person refers to me as a slay queen because I have started indulging in getting my nails done, wearing weaves, and make-up etc. because I do not understand where all that comes from, maybe we need to re-define a slay queen? For one, I do not go clubbing, I do not pay attention to rich men, let alone men; I play with guys in the same league as me. I do not accept cash from men, for the longest of time I have referred to myself as “Miss Independent”, and I still stand on that term. I wear all these things to look good, and feel good. I do not ‘have to’ wear these things, like some girls do, I just want to wear them because I like things, lol.
Anyway, I believe in queens, girls that rule their own worlds. In fact, I believe in “queens that slay”. To put that in good term, I mean girls that kill their looks. They look in order to be the rulers of their independent states. I am that girl, make-up or no make-up, I am a queen that slays. I do not let men categorize me, I do not “slay queens” categorize me, I categorize myself. My crown is to bright to be ruined by a group of people that do not even know my worth. I may not have all the money in the world, expensive taste (in clothes, hair, make-up etc.), but I know for sure, that some day, if I continue to work hard, I will have all these things. I do not need a man to make me look good, I need myself to look beyond the world class, and to get to where I want to be. I can travel the world, and get all these things that money can buy all by myself. “Easy come, easy go” they say. Dear young girl, please be smart enough to not let the desires of your heart ruin your life, be a beauty with brains.
being a slay queen is all that you are going to be because you are dependent on somebody’s husband to give you money and make you look good. Don’t be that stupid girl. Love yourself, respect yourself and get your money the right way.
I tried to comment the first time it did not want . Anyway you have said a mouthful babu girl and it's all about self worth and we need to preach that to our mates cause it's like they have forgotten about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you tried commenting again, thank you :)
DeleteIt's people like us that need to remind our fellow mates that they are worthy, and don't need to be someone's skivvy to get what they want.
The other day some lady said to me Slay Queens were initially young independent women living the good life - until some were envious and found other means to live that life (by dating the men you mentioned in your article).
ReplyDeleteGreat article.
The term Slay Queen has a negative image attached to it now. If I could define it, I would take it back to the term "goal digger".
DeleteI once told my sister that she looks like a slay Queen but didn't refer to her as a slay Queen
ReplyDeleteShould I be feeling bad .?
Because she works hard to look the way she looks
Lol! I am still offended by that. Anyway, it's a good thing that you know that your sister works to look good, so don't feel bad.
DeleteLol! As long as you still offended I feel bad. But great article it made me realize somethings I didn't even know / corrected the things I thought I knew.
DeleteOne thing I constantly hear from the worldly slay queens is "I deserve nice things"
ReplyDeleteNow, let's change this statement to "I've worked hard for my nice things"
Great post, I stan with every single thing.
Thank you! Thank you so much for reading my article as well :)
DeleteAmen! I couldn't have said it better myself. These young girls care so much about materialistic things that they are willing to sacrifice their self respect. I also don't take it as a compliment when I'm being called a slay queen. We all want the finer things in life, but this really isn't the way to get them.
ReplyDeleteI should start handing my blog posts over to you before I publish them so that you can add a few things, you always have something catchy to say. But you are so right! Being called a slay queen is no compliment at all.
DeleteWell said Deekay. It's actually very sad to see people our age and younger doing these things. A men will treat you on how you carry and represent yourself . And I think the problem we have is this YOLO things, cause you only live once you have to be wild you have to accomplish things but those things are not even in your league YOLO should be about yourself and the good things that you can accomplish and to fight for your purpose on earth by doing the things you would want to be remembered with . Life is not always easy and it doesn't come on a platter and we all going through things we should start making our own platters and not be someone's platter and always keep in mind that the plans you do now will reflect in the next coming years and 'i should've ' will not be good enough then ,cause of wrong following tends and what others are doing. I always say you'd rather disappoint them than to disappoint yourself. One thing about people is that they will always talk wheather you do bad or good .It's time for young people to stand up for themselves .Good things will always be around and am sure they'll be more fun and enjoyable when one is Independent .Don't be an affordable label be rare and expensive only those that are focused ,work hard ,smart and know how to take care of a Diamond can have you and young lady you are not just any diamond you are a heavenly diamond you are not a slay queen but A Queen .Take care of yourselves. Thank you Deekay ☺👑
ReplyDeletePreach Tincie, preach girl! I know a lot of people are grounded on "hustling", forgetting their roots. It's not a lot of girls who will agree to what we are saying because they are lazy to get up and do things on their own. Thank you for reading this girl, it is much appreciated.
DeleteWell said indeed chomi am Soo proud of you I just hope u have put sime sense in those nairv gals head am not sure they l even listen
ReplyDeleteDoubt they will listen too, they are in so deep into being slay queens, some of them cannot even get out.
DeleteCouldn't be better said !...independent ladies are a turn on for me. All these "slay queens " need to stand up for their worth and dignities
ReplyDeleteIf only ladies knew how much of a turn off being a slay queen is, and knew the significance of being independent.
DeleteI think the fundamental problem here is that women have actually forgotten how much weight they carry in society... You guys literally carry nations in your wombs yet most of you are actually afraid of your true potential... Never been interested in Slay Queens, but officially looking for a Queen that Slays...
ReplyDeleteI think another thing that makes women blind to power they have is the fact that men also take advantage by abusing women, hence some women turn to such things after experiencing abuse by the opposite sex. I am not justifying their actions, but some have a story behind why they are slay queens. A queen that slays is definitely a go-getter, and all that guys with good backgrounds seek for.
DeleteMhhhh, there's so much I wanna say as well... Anyway, there's a missing term somewhere there that you should have also defined, "prostitution". According to what I've read in the first few paragraphs, it's safe to say " slay Queens" are P****tes. Because, I mean these men are acually paying for sex, even though this is done indirectly, I don't see the difference between those women that you'll find in the streets of Johannesburg wearing short skirts, and "Sly Queens"... Lol slay queens are just moving with the times man... Hahaha! This also applies in relationships!
ReplyDeleteYou went deep into it, I tried being sincere by decorating the terms but you said it all! Haha...
