The Essence Of Being Authentic

Being real is something that most people struggle to do. It takes a bold person to disclose themselves as who they really are when they are around people who do not know them very well. Society sets norms and roles according to what is expected from each and everyone of us, but then why can't we set our own rules? It is not like we are forbidden to do so. I have heard many people say "do unto others as you would like them to do unto you"; in fact, that is a Bible scripture. My question is, Is it okay for someone to give you the wrong impression of who they really are on social media, and disclose themselves as completely different people when they meet you in person? Do they expect you to be real, and tell them who you are when they did the direct opposite to you? Do you become a person you are not because others are doing so?

In order to be known as a realist, you need to be the same person on social media as you are in person.
You need to give out the same information of who you are to one person as you have to another. You cannot be known as "Mary" to one person and be known as "Ruth" to another. When people describe you, they should not have contradictory ideas of who you are. You need to address people on the outside world the same way you address your parents at home, if you are known for standing up for what you believe to be right, do so, even if it means going against what society expects from you, at least you would not have faked anything. Be honest, be known for who you really are, and do not pretend to be what you are not. Be your own person, stop trying to copy what other people do by playing their roles. Who will play your role if you are constantly going out to get someone else's role? Be authentic, if you really want to be known as the real deal.

  1. I truly agree, being authentic and real is hard because of social media pressures. People have been driven to be so insecure about themselves so they create and mimic celebrities. To be accepted and adored.

    Great topic dikeledi.

    1. Celebrities are simply acting. They get paid to do that. In real life, they are realists. They know how to disclose themselves.

      Thank you for that Cindy

    1. I agree to that. You do disappear when you try to fit in, you lose yourself in the midst of trying to fit it. In most cases, that leads to your downfall.

Thank you for that Tshediso. Stay tuned for more posts from me.
